Sidenote from our usual topics...

I had an amazing day at the UU Fellowship today. Everyone got to share how they had become a UU and it was so moving to hear everyone's story. At one point one of the ladies referred to her husband as a miracle who'd saved her and he just couldn't hold back his tears. It was so special and I feel so lucky to have been a part of it.

I myself don't really identify as a UU per se. I have recently decided that I'm "living without labels" so I'm not ready to adopt this one. If I were to adopt a religion though UU would be it. Where else can the Christian, pagan, atheiest, agnostic, and questioning seeker come together and find a loving community. I am in awe of the openess.

When it was my turn to share I told a bit about my past, what made me question the religious models of my youth, and the fact that I believe some questions are unanswerable but I still think it's important to search for those answers.

  1. I like your "living without labels" concept. That is good. I never thought I would say it, but I DO identify as a UU. So weird for me. Wish I would have had a chance to "share my journey" also on that Sunday, because it has surprised me. I love the "umbrella" of being UU--how it can encompass so much and hold the space for a lot of different ideas. ("a religion that is broad and encompassing, personal yet universal"--how strange for me to discover that I do have a religion after all!) What is also funny to me, is that I identify as a UU even though I have earth-centered, New Age, Goddess/feminine spirituality tendencies. When I have my Cakes for the Queen of Heaven presentation two years ago, one of the attendees (who just came to that presentation and I've never seen him again) asked me how long I had been a "pagan." I said, "I'm not a pagan." And he looked stunned and said, "well then what are you?" I replied, "I'm a Unitarian Universalist" and he looked confused like you couldn't JUST be UU. But, at that moment I realized it was true. I was UU. (self labeled!)

I have more to say, but I'll stop now and get my own blog ;-D
